To accurately and efficiently process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs and prescribing nurses. To assist the Operations Manager in ensuring effective financial control of the dispensary.
You are responsible to the Operations Manager. Any matters of dispensary policy should be discussed with them in the first instance.
Dispensing and Customer Service
· Taking orders for and dispensing acute and repeat prescriptions in accordance with the current dispensary policy

· Receiving patients at the dispensary, giving them their acute and repeat medications and collecting prescription charges when appropriate.
· Giving good patient advice by recommending patients correct use of their medicines and giving other pharmacological advice as may be appropriate.
· Resolving any patient’s queries regarding drugs, prescriptions or dispensing service.
· Preparing blister packs.
Stock Management
· Maintaining appropriate stocking levels as pre-set on the clinical system.
· Making orders for stock and receiving deliveries.
· Ensuring all new stock is checked thoroughly and in accordance with the invoices produced following dispensary protocols.
· To chase and rectify any anomalies in stock orders from deliveries.
· Maintaining the correct stock rotation as advised in the dispensary SOPs
· Maintaining the Controlled Drug Register and stock levels in accordance with regulations.
Dispensing Administration
· Preparing and advising the Finance Manager of all VAT implications.
· Keeping the dispenser responsible for the holiday rota informed of any holidays.
· Inform the Patient Services Manager of any changes to work patterns and personnel updates
· Assisting in the preparation and submission of dispensing projects e.g. The Dispensing Services Quality Scheme, Drug and Formulary Audits, Dispensing Protocols.
· Keeping dispensary SOPs up to date
· Reporting any near misses and significant events through the correct process
The Dispensary & Surgery Team
· Providing cover for periods of holiday and sickness
· Undertaking training, updating and development and maintaining an awareness of pharmaceutical issues.
· Attending staff, Surgery and dispensary team meetings as required
· Advising other surgery staff on matters relating to the dispensary.
· Integration with whole Surgery team e.g. practice nurses, doctors, admin etc.
